Our new logo - an abstract interpretation of the saola's head - is much more than just a logo. It represents our reason for being. Let's start from the beginning...
The discovery of the saola is a fascinating story combining science, surprise and serendipity. In the early 1990s, a groundbreaking discovery was made in the dense, solitary forests of the Annamite Range, located between Vietnam and Laos. The saola was unknown to Western science until scientists came across a pair of unusual horns in the home of a local hunter. These horns, contrary to everything that science knew, suggested the existence of an unknown species.
Intrigued and perplexed by this discovery, the team set out to unravel the mystery behind these unique horns. The scientists spent weeks trekking through dense forests and difficult terrain, interviewing local residents and gathering what little information was available.
Eventually, the team discovered a saola specimen.
The discovery of the saola was a significant event for several reasons. First of all, it is rare for a large mammal to be discovered in our time, which makes the saola an extraordinary find.
