There are many actions to make your daily life much more ecological. From waking up until the end of the day, there are alternatives. Good news, these are very simple gestures to put in place, that everyone can do !
We present 6 of them to you, below! Of course, all these actions are to be carried out with your SAOLA ecological shoes on your feet. Wasp not crazy.
1 | A day always starts with a journey.
You can replace most of your car journeys with public transport, carpooling or cycling when it is accessible. Namely that more than 60% of CO2 emissions from transport is caused by the car. Most cities offer ecological alternatives linked to transport (rental of electric bicycles, setting up a network of buses and metros) and some of the aid (free "Vélib" for young Parisians, state aid when buying an electric bike up to €250).
For the more adventurous and thrill-seekers, new means of transport are emerging with the appearance of the OneWheel, the skateboard (Evolve, ElwingBoard) or the electric scooter, which is more democratized.
Here at SAOLA, we promote public transport to preserve our beautiful city and our planet. Guillaume comes by electric scooter , Apolline by bike , Emilie by train , Antoine and Maxime by skateboard .. In short, we put aside the car. In addition, we avoid traffic jams.
2 | A little coffee and let's go!
After arriving at the office, we all have a first instinct to make ourselves a coffee to start the day off right, right?
So don't hesitate to offer a filter or bean machine to replace your capsule machine . The latter impact the environment on average 10 times more than a traditional machine. Each year, 9 billion capsules are sold around the world (that makes coffee!) and represent 40,000 tons of waste. Only part of these capsules are recycled since they are not composed solely of aluminum (which can be recycled to infinity).
In our premises, there is a coffee machine for the 4 companies present because we are all in the same dynamic!
3 | The 10am break is necessary?! Don't forget your water bottle!
83% of French people regularly drink water from plastic bottles. These represent a degradation of our planet on a daily basis. The solution: use a reusable water bottle to avoid buying plastic bottles.
At SAOLA, everyone has a reusable Hydroflask bottle offered on arrival. Thus, each employee or trainee tries to minimize his impact on the environment.
4 | A quick sort of emails before eating.
We talk about it more and more, but it is true that sending and storing emails produce a lot of CO2. With 10 billion emails sent per hour worldwide , it is important to limit useless emails as much as possible, or to store thousands of emails that you will never read again. Namely that about thirty emails sent per day over a year corresponds to a car trip of 300-400km.
You can then try software that allows you to bring employees together in a conversation (Teams, Skype, Trello, Discord, etc.)
Quick responses, less impact on the environment, everyone wins.
5 | It's time to eat !
Just like water bottles, plastic packaging can be replaced by reusable boxes, mainly made of glass. This allows you, on the one hand not to waste your meal from the day before, but also to avoid buying a meal every day and using materials that are harmful to the environment . There are lunchboxes of all colors and for all tastes!
Do not hesitate to take an interest in Batch Cooking , this allows you to prepare all your meals for the week in advance and therefore frees up your time every evening.
6 | And our waste in all this? Where do we put them?
In France, 48% of people think about sorting their waste at home every day. We are clearly on the right track! This is a figure that is increasing every year (and we are not going to stop there!).
But why stop at home when some gestures can be very simple? Add different colored trash cans for all employees. You can also think of a little compost if the place allows it. Like that, each waste in its place.
Obviously, the list is not exhaustive. There are countless quick, effective methods and solutions that can save our planet! This is what is sought at all costs here at SAOLA.
